West Indies' Yannic Cariah, Floyd Reifer undergo surgery after training accidents

West Indies all-rounder Yannic Cariah and assistant coach Floyd Reifer have both undergone surgery after sustaining facial injuries during training at the ongoing World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. The West Indies team made the announcement on Friday, revealing the incidents that occurred in separate training sessions.

Yannic Cariah, a talented leg-spinner and left-handed batsman, suffered a broken nose during a training mishap last Saturday. Following the incident, Cariah underwent a surgical procedure in Harare on Thursday evening.

A team spokesman provided an update stating, "Cariah will remain with the squad under the care of the medical team whilst he recovers. A decision on when he can return to play will be made in the coming days, as the medical team supports his recovery."

Assistant coach Floyd Reifer was also unfortunate to be struck in the face during a separate training session on Wednesday. As a result, he underwent a similar surgical procedure to address his facial injury.

Despite these setbacks, the West Indies team has shown resilience on the field, securing victories against the United States and Nepal in the qualifying tournament thus far. They are set to face Zimbabwe on Saturday and the Netherlands on Monday in their remaining first-round matches.
