West Ham suffer double fresh injury blow ahead of Manchester United and Brighton games

David Moyes has confirmed West Ham United have a couple of fresh injury blows ahead of their upcoming games against Manchester United and Brighton.

The Hammers secured a thumping 4-0 win over fellow Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest on Saturday as a brilliant 14-minute second-half blitz blew away Steve Cooper's men. A quickfire double from Danny Ings in the 71st and 73rd minute put the London outfit in control before Declan Rice and substitute Michail Antonio put some gloss on the scoreline.

The result saw West Ham climb out of the relegation zone and into 16th as Everton and Bournemouth, who were ahead of Moyes' men before Saturday's games, both lost to Aston Villa and Manchester City respectively. However, there was a slight blemish for the home side following the Forest victory.

Right-back Vladimir Coufal came off at half time for Aaron Cresswell due to an issue with his heel and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was replaced by Alphonse Areola after sustaining a nasty-looking eye problem. The Hammers travel to United on Wednesday for a fifth-round FA Cup clash and then take on the Seagulls in the Premier League next Saturday.

After the win, which saw West Ham close the gap to Forest to two points, Moyes delivered an update on the duo, and Lucas Paqueta, who appeared to hurt his shoulder in the second half.

"Vladimir Coufal has got a bit of a heel injury, he’s been feeling a bit on his heel but I didn’t think it was quite that bad, but he had to come off with it at half-time. You’ve probably seen Lukasz’s eye is quite bad, I think we’re more worried about his eye socket area, that sort of thing," said Moyes.

"I’ve had a look, he [Fabianski] seems okay. Obviously it’s come up very quickly and it’s black and blue.

He added: "[Lucas] Paqueta went down with his shoulder where he’s had the problems, so I sort of thought ‘oh, here we go again.’ He seemed to come through it quite well and did a lot of good things and things we really like."
