West Ham stance over Nottingham Forest transfer target emerges

West Ham have reportedly decided what role Emmanuel Longelo will hold at the Olympic Stadium this season amid transfer interest from Nottingham Forest.

Longelo was being monitored by the Reds back in January alongside Peterborough United. This summer the Hammers have rejected two bids from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Forest reportedly held talks with the Hammers in the winter over a possible deal, but nothing materialised in the end.

According to The Athletic, Longelo will now be trusted with an increased role within David Moyes' first-team set-up this summer.

The 21-year-old left-back predominantly featured for the Hammers' under-23 team last term, contributing a goal and five assists in 18 Premier League 2 appearances.

His first senior outing for the Hammers was a 5-1 EFL Cup win over Hull City. His full first-team debut came last season as he played 90 minutes in the Europa League group clash with Dinamo Zagreb.

Left-back is an area in which Forest are seeking reinforcements. Max Lowe's return to parent club Sheffield United and Gaetan Bong's departure means Forest are without a senior left-sided full-back.

Jack Colback was often used as a stop-gap option when Lowe was out injured, but he is not seen as a regular option for the position. Aaron Donnelly has shown his talents for the Reds' under-23s, but stepping up into the first-team in the Premier League may be a step too soon for the young full-back.
