West Ham set Julen Lopetegui announcement plan as new manager deal agreed

Julen Lopetegui is set to be confirmed as West Ham’s new manager later this week, after David Moyes took charge of his final game as Hammers boss.

Earlier this month, Lopetegui agreed a deal in principle to take over at the London Stadium, but the decision was made to delay an official announcement until after the end of the campaign.

The former Spain and Real Madrid boss emerged as the club’s first-choice following talks with several candidates, including Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim, and will take the helm ahead of the pre-season tour to the USA.

Moyes is leaving West Ham at the end of his contract after four-and-a-half successful years in charge.

The Scot’s reign ended with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad, with the Irons unable to halt Pep Guardiola’s side in their charge towards a fourth-straight Premier League title.

A pitch invasion by City supporters denied Moyes the chance to say a final farewell to West Ham fans but the Scot received an emotional send-off following the previous weekend’s victory over Luton in the final home game of the season.

Moyes revealed last week that he has already had several offers of new jobs but intends to take a break and spend time with his family while weighing up his next move. The 61-year-old is also set to work for the BBC and talkSPORT on their coverage of this summer’s Euro 2024.
