West Ham's new £30.5million striker reflects on debut against Man City

West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca has sent a message to Hammers fans after making his debut against Manchester City.

Despite a disrupted pre-season, the Italian striker came off the bench to make his Irons debut in place of Michail Antonio for the final 33 minutes of Sunday's 2-0 loss, his first appearance since leaving Sassuolo last month in a £30.5million transfer.

Scamacca’s debut came on a memorable day for the club. Following the recent capacity extension of the London Stadium to 62,500, a crowd of 62,443 were in attendance, the club’s highest crowd at their home stadium.

Speaking about his debut, Scamacca said he was desperate to get a goal for Hammers supporters sooner rather than later.

“The fans, I’ve never seen it like this before, this is so good,” Scamacca told the club website. “This is so good and I hope I can give to them a goal as soon as possible.”

Scamacca will look to get his first start for the club and his first goal when the Irons take on newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is at 2pm.
