West Ham prospect gets Derby County boost after injury nightmare start to loan spell

West Ham United goalkeeper Joseph Anang could be closing in on making his long-awaited first-team debut for loan club Derby County after a nightmare start to life at Pride Park.

The 22-year-old Ghana-born stopper swapped east London for the east Midlands in August, joining the Rams on a season-long deal from West Ham following previous short-term stints with Stevenage and St Patrick’s Athletic.

However, shortly after his arrival in Derbyshire, Anang suffered a small arm fracture in one his first training sessions for the club and has since been out of action, returning to the club’s Rush Green training ground for part of his rehabilitation.

Following over four months out of action, Anang has now been pictured back in training with his loan club Derby, who trained on their Pride Park pitch on Tuesday ahead of their trip to Bolton Wanderers in League One on Tuesday, December 27. The pictures were posted on Derby's official Twitter account.

Anang is yet to make a senior appearance for the Hammers but has played five times for their under-21s in the Papa John’s Trophy against sides from League One and League Two.

Including those, he has played 53 senior matches, making 18 appearances for Stevenage and a further 30 for St Patrick’s Athletic, as well as winning one cap for England’s under-20s in November 2019 against Iceland.
