West Ham prepare major increase on Arsenal's £25m initial bid for key PSG attacking target

Arsenal will be able to take a back seat as they watch proceedings surrounding one of Europe's hottest strikers unfold over the coming weeks.

Having already secured key attacking target Gabriel Jesus, alongside deals to bring in Fabio Viera, Matt Turner and Marquinhos, the Gunners have had a good start to the window as they look to mount a serious challenge for the top four once again.

Jesus had a dream start to life in a red shirt as he scored twice coming off the bench in Mikel Arteta's first friendly of pre-season against Nurnberg last week. With their new no.9 added to the squad, they can relax as a bidding war for one of Serie A's best stars commences.

Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca has been the talk of the town when it comes to out-and-out strikers this summer, and offers a youthful option to a maturing market. The Gunners had been reportedly interested in the Italian, but have since backed out.

Primarily, their interest had died down due to the acquisition of Jesus, but football.london also understands that the price tag placed on the 23-year-old was off-putting. Italian super-agent Roberto De Fanti said that the opening offer of £25m was laughed off by Sassuolo, and the Londoners were told to double their money.

On top of already spending £45m on Jesus, and looking to bring in extra options including Aston Villa starlet Carney Chukwuemeka, Arsenal left the table there and then. It now looks like one of their London rivals has picked up the pace to sign Scamacca though, as David Moyes' West Ham prepare a bid.

The Hammers are searching the market for a new forward and have turned their attention to Serie A, with the knowledge that Scamacca has ambitions to play in the Premier League. This builds into Sassuolo's hopes of a bidding war to drive up the price of the player, as French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

The Parisians were reportedly close to a move for the striker, but Gianluca Di Marzio has said that the two clubs remain a way off in their valuation.

As Arsenal prepare to play their next preseason match against Everton on Sunday, July 17, they can watch as the price of Scamacca goes up, resting in the knowledge that their striker position has already been filled.
