West Ham plot opening transfer bid for PSG midfielder Carlos Soler

West Ham are interested in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.

The Hammers are yet to enter talks with PSG, but Standard Sport understand they are considering an opening transfer bid.

Soler scored for Spain at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has made 14 appearances for his country but spent much of last season on the bench for PSG as he made more substitute appearances than starts.

The 27-year-old central midfielder, who can also play on the right, joined them in 2022 from his boyhood club Valencia. Reports in Spain have also linked Soler with a move to Real Sociedad, as a potential replacement for Arsenal target Mikel Merino.

West Ham have had a highly productive transfer window in a summer of change at the club, making eight signings including Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug and Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

They are now understood to be in the market for a new central midfielder and see Soler as a possible option who may be open to leaving the French capital in search for heightened game time.

Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui was asked on Thursday whether the club are close to signing Soler from PSG.

Lopetegui replied: “I’m not going to talk about names that are not here. It’s not my aim today. My aim is to be ready for the match.

“Let’s see what is going to happen. The market is open. We are going to be aware about [it]. But we are going to put the focus on the players that are here.”

West Ham kick off their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they host Aston Villa at the London Stadium.
