West Ham player ratings vs Newcastle: Howlers left, right and centre with Nayef Aguerd guilty of worst

West Ham’s defence crumbled in a 5-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Errors were abundant at London Stadium with Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Lukasz Fabianski all helping the Magpies to goals. Kurt Zouma hit a header in reply on a sobering night.

Here’s how David Moyes’s side rated at the London Stadium...

Lukasz Fabianski - 4

Rounded by Joelinton for second, made a string of fine saves to keep the score respectable, but then added a clanger for Alexander Isak’s fourth.

Thilo Kehrer - 3

Needlessly gave away corner that led to Callum Wilson’s opener. Looked generally unsteady all night. Subbed.

Kurt Zouma - 5

Towering header to pull one back before half-time but questionable for Joelinton goal.

Nayef Aguerd - 2

Left Wilson free when pushing out for opener. Hilariously bad error for third goal straight after the break. Could not have come at a worse time.

Emerson Palmieri - 4

Guilty of playing Joelinton onside for second Toon goal. Harsh booking for tackle on Jacob Murphy.

Tomas Soucek - 4

Seemed to go missing as Newcastle found passes between the lines laughably easy early on. Subbed.

Declan Rice - 6

Held things together for a brief period after second goal. Some fine driving runs.

Lucas Paqueta - 5

Went close to pulling one back with smart low free-kick parried round the post.

Jarrod Bowen - 6

Brilliant burst down the right almost made opener in first minute. Superb corner set up Zouma’s goal.

Michail Antonio - 6

Much more involved than Danny Ings has been, caused problems with direct running. Denied by a brilliant Sven Botman tackle. Subbed.

Said Benrahma - 5

Beaten far too easily by Allan Saint-Maximin as he crossed for Wilson’s opener. Subbed.

Substitutes

Vladimir Coufal (Kehrer 63’) - 5

Flynn Downes (Soucek 63’) - 5

Maxwel Cornet (Benrahma 63’) - 5

Should have come on earlier.

Danny Ings (Antonio 63’) - 4

Couldn’t match Antonio’s presence.
