Alphonse Areola The only change from Sunday's win over Everton. Hard to point a finger of blame for Tanguy Ndombele's equaliser but fortunate not to be punished when spilling a Lucas Paqueta shot 12 minutes from time. He made a couple of solid stops after that to ensure parity. 5
Ryan Fredericks Kept his place in the team because David Moyes was wary of Karl Toko Ekambi's pace, only for the competition's top scorer to start on the bench. Fredericks made his presence felt early on when clattering Houssem Aouar and he got forward well on occasion. 6
Craig Dawson Made a solid block to halt an Aouar shot that looked on target midway through the first half and won a lot of ball in the air. Left with a bloody nose late on before making a sliding tackle that drew the second loudest roar of the match in added time. Of course he followed it up with another one minute later. 7
Kurt Zouma Tidy for the most part but will be frustated Tete's cross for Ndombele's goal came through the area he was meant to be protecting. 6
Aaron Cresswell Distraught as he walked off after being shown a straight red card for a gentle pull on Moussa Dembele as Lyon broke. The referee decided it was denying a goalscoring opportunity but it was still harsh as Dembele went down so willingly. The left back had defended well up to that oint and played a couple of decent passes forward. 5
Declan Rice Typically excellent while in knowledge that a yellow card would mean he would be banned for the second leg. Rarely out of position defensively and passing ability set those further forward away on numerous occasions. 7
Tomas Soucek Kept things moving without quite making an impact in the defensive or attacking third. 6
Jarrod Bowen West Ham's main man once again, capitalising on some awful defending from Jerome Boateng, who allowed the ball to run under him and into the wide man's path. With only the goalkeeper to beat he made no mistake, converting from about eight yards. Up to that point he had been quiet by his usual standards apart from a smart set piece for Rice that created a good opportunity. 7
Pablo Fornals Did little wrong but would have hoped for a more telling impact going forward. 6
Said Benrahma Had the hosts' first chance when running on to a long diagonal pass only to see his effort saved from a tight angle and West Ham attempted that trick on another couple of occasions, twice leading to corners. But Benrahma was sacrficed at the break as Moyes prioritised another defender. 6
Michail Antonio First glimpse of goal arrived after 18 minutes but his low shot was blocked. Looked isolated for much of the second half but played a vital role in the build up to Bowen's opener. Booked in the final stages. 6
