West Ham player ratings vs Everton: Alphonse Areola and Tomas Soucek step up for Hammers

West Ham left it late with two goals after 90 minutes were up as they claimed a 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees had been hoping to put more distance between themselves and the bottom three after having four of their deducted 10 points returned this week.

They seemed on course after Beto made amends for missing a first-half penalty by putting them ahead after 56 minutes but Kurt Zouma replied with a header.

Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez then both netted in stoppage time as the visitors took the spoils.

Here’s how David Moyes’s side rated at Goodison Park...

Alphonse Areola 9

Superb all afternoon. Made a big save to deny Beto in open play, then another to keep out the same player’s penalty. Man of the match by some margin.

Vladimir Coufal 6

Steady enough at right-back, though crosses were meat and drink stuff for Everton centre-halves.

Konstantinos Mavropanos 5

Some important bits of defending but so lacking in composure on the ball. Completely lost his man for Everton opener.

Kurt Zouma 6

Penalised for handball for Everton penalty but bailed out by Areola. Made amends with superb header against his former club.

Emerson 6

A big first-half threat down the left in combination with Lucas Paqueta.

James Ward-Prowse 6

Pressing won the ball in some dangerous positions. Back on it with set-piece threat to set up Zouma leveller.

Edson Alvarez 8

Got firmly stuck in to what was a bitty affair in the middle of the park. Cool finish clinched the points in added time.

Tomas Soucek 8

One vital clearance in front of his goalkeeper after Paqueta slip, then another on the line to deny Doucoure. Came up trumps with a stunning finish in added time.

Mohammed Kudus 6

Skipped beyond his full-back a couple of times but more often found himself doubled and tripled up on. Denied late on by a scrambling Pickford.

Jarrod Bowen 6

Found life understandably tough up against Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski but timed pass to set-up Alvarez clincher to perfection.

Lucas Paqueta 6

Always willing to take the ball under pressure, but a little loose. Still feeling his way back from injury and withdraw late on.

Substitutes

Kalvin Phillips (Ward-Prowse 66’) 6

A solid cameo exactly what was needed on his return.

Michail Antonio (Paqueta 80’) N/A

Ben Johnson (Kudus 90’) N/A

Angelo Ogbonna (Emerson 90’) N/A

Unused: Fabianski, Aguerd, Cresswell, Ings, Mubama
