West Ham player ratings vs Burnley: Kalvin Phillips endures another torrid afternoon

West Ham fought back from going two goals down to relegation-threatened Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.

Danny Ings scored a crucial late goal after Lucas Paqueta brought the Hammers back into the game just after half-time.

Here’s how David Moyes’s side rated at the London Stadium...

Alphonse Areola 6

Blameless for both goals. Distribution needs work, though. Terrific block to deny Burnley a winner deep into added time.

Vladimir Coufal 6

Tried to bring some energy down the right and twice delivered dangerous crosses, one of which deflected onto the bar.

Konstantinos Mavropanos 3

So lacking in composure on the ball, with long passing hopelessly wayward. Turned Cullen’s cross into his own goal.

Nayef Aguerd 4

Recalled to the XI but weak in challenging Fofana for the opener. Lacks bravery on the ball.

Aaron Cresswell 5

Deputising for the injured Emerson. Attacking drop off is marked, but steady enough going the other way.

Tomas Soucek 4

Handed the captain’s armband for the day but was largely anonymous. Booked.

Kalvin Phillips 3

Another rotten afternoon. Started slowly, failed to close Fofana for the opener and then dragged at half-time.

James Ward-Prowse 3

Really struggling for form since the turn of the year. Another replaced at half-time.

Mohammed Kudus 6

Made a glorious chance to level for himself but somehow blazed over. Cross created Ings leveller late on.

Jarrod Bowen 5

Struggled to time his runs when Burnley high line ought to have played to his strengths. Better when moved wide after half-time.

Lucas Paqueta 6

So sloppy in the first-half but drove team on with goal back immediately after the break. Booked.

Substitutes

Edson Alvarez (Phillips 46’) 7

Made such a difference after introduction. May quietly have become West Ham’s most important player.

Michail Antonio (Ward-Prowse 46’) 7

Hold-up play made a significant difference. Good work to set up Paqueta chance.

Danny Ings (Aguerd 82’) 7

So unlucky to see would-be leveller disallowed for tightest of offsides, but conjured another minutes later. Then hit the bar with terrific effort on the turn.

Unused: Fabianski, Johnson, Zouma, Ogbonna, Earthy, Mubama
