West Ham player ratings vs Bournemouth: Said Benrahma stakes his claim as Gianluca Scamacca struggles

West Ham edged Bournemouth on Monday night, helped in part by the video assistant referee to climb into the top half of the Premier League table.

Kurt Zouma headed home the opener, despite Thilo Kehrer seemingly handling in the build-up, before Said Benrahma fired home a late penalty are a long VAR review.

Here’s how David Moyes’ side rated at the London Stadium...

Lukasz Fabianski 6

Denied Solanke at near-post after Soucek error and was otherwise largely a spectator. So reliable.

Ben Johnson 6

Guilty of failing to pick out a teammate in a couple of promising positions down the right.

Thilo Kehrer 7

Some extremely composed work on the ball. Fortunate opener was not ruled out for his handball.

Kurt Zouma 7

Scored his first goal in almost a year with close-range header. A rock at the back as Bournemouth tried to apply pressure late on.

Aaron Cresswell 6

Given plenty of attacking licence, with Bournemouth posing little threat down his flank. Overlaps key to allowing Benrahma to do his best work inside.

Declan Rice 7

Eyes lit up with terrific volley palmed away by Travers. Another whose composure in possession helped launch home attacks.

Tomas Soucek 6

Lucky to get away with a slack pass in midfield that sent Solanke away. Header kept ball alive for Zouma goal.

Said Benrahma 8

A bright, sparky showing that just lacked some end product until well-taken penalty. Encouraging signs, though, with the left-midfield berth still seemingly up for grabs.

Flynn Downes 6

Made his second Premier League start and was again asked to fulfill an unfamiliar role, this time at No10, and did not look suited to it.

Jarrod Bowen 7

The best player on the park before half-time, twice dropping deep and pinging passes in behind for teammates a la Harry Kane.

Gianluca Scamacca 5

Guilty of holding onto the ball too long on several occasions as promising counter-attacks were halted. Not his best night.

Substitutes

Michail Antonio (Scamacca 74’) 6

Pablo Fornals (Downes 88’) N/A

Vladimir Coufal (Bowen 88’) 6

On as a late sub and immediately won the penalty that clinched it.

Unused: Areola, Randolph, Ogbonna, Emerson, Lanzini, Coventry.
