West Ham player ratings: Ollie Scarles stars on debut as Pablo Fornals' goals seal FCSB win

West Ham United became the first team in the history of the Europa Conference League to win all six of their group matches with a 2-0 win over FCSB.

Pablo Fornals opened the scoring in the first half to put the Hammers ahead as teenage striker Divin Mubama doubled the lead on his senior debut. Fornals added his second shortly before the hour mark to seal victory.

Here is how football.london’s West Ham United writer Jonty Colman rated the Hammers’ players against FCSB.

Alphonse Areola

The Frenchman had a relatively easy night four days after coming on at half-time against Manchester United. Did what he had to with ease, but this was probably the easiest of the clean sheets to keep that he's managed all season. 7

Ben Johnson

Playing on the right of the back three, Ben Johnson struggled defensively early on and with his distribution. Went from one extreme to the other with a beautiful long pass over the top that sent Fornals away for his opening goal. Had more defending to do in the second as FCSB attempted to get back into the game, but failed to do so. Much better in the second half. 7

Nayef Aguerd

Moroccan £30million signing Nayef Aguerd played 90 minutes in a big step towards his recovery from a pre-season ankle injury. The best of the back three, was the one to get West Ham out of trouble when they faced early danger and looked comfortable throughout, showing good pace, strength and positional awareness. Almost had a first goal on the stroke of half-time when heading at a Fornals corner, but after deflection, was cleared, despite looking very close to fully crossing the line. Good on the ball too. Brilliant late block to stop Risto Radunovic's shot from point-blank range. 8

Angelo Ogbonna

Speaking of goals and defenders, Angelo Ogbonna almost got himself a rare goal when going on an outstanding run midway through the second half, but was denied by a good Stefan Tarnovanu save. Did not do much wrong defensively at all, solid throughout and showed really good passing awareness and a progressive nature. The back line were hardly tested, after early scares, but they did what they needed to. 7

Vladimir Coufal

Czech Republic defender Vladimir Coufal started poorly and did not have a great first half, struggling particularly on the ball. Better, like many others after the break and his cross lead to Mubama making it 2-0. Taken off shortly after Fornals' second, a really good assist but some of his first half contributions were below par. 6

Flynn Downes

There was a fluid role for Flynn Downes, with him and Manuel Lanzini rotting in the role of partnering Conor Coventry in midfield. Came close to getting a goal in the first half when latching onto a Fornals cross, forcing a save. Moved the ball well, clever touches with Moyes again encouraging him to add more in his attacking game. Among those taken off as soon as it became 3-0. 7

Conor Coventry

A really good performance from Conor Coventry. Allowed the rest of midfield to attack as he held a nice base behind them. Did show off his range of passing at times and generally just really, really composed on the ball. Another pleasing display in this competition for him 6

Ollie Scarles (Star man)

Ollie Scarles became the sixth youngest player in West Ham history when starting at left wing-back, with the 16-year-old given a full debut in the absence of Aaron Cresswell and Emerson. Really impressed in the first half, providing good energy and crosses from the left side, creating a good first half chance for fellow debutant and teenager Divin Mubama, shortly after teeing up Fornals in similar fashion. Deservedly the star man, pretty much everything Moyes could ask for in that position. Really attacking, with crosses leading to chances, including the move for Fornals' second. So close to a debut goal as well and he would have deserved it too. 8

Manuel Lanzini

A lot to like about the performance of Manuel Lanzini. Rotated with Downes and always looked creative, adding experience to a forward line that included Mubama and Scarles whenever he got forward. Deserved a goal himself and came close to it late on, seeing a long shot saved. 7

Pablo Fornals

In the first half, Fornals looked the most likely of scoring, getting an early couple of chances off, the first teed up by Scarles and the second latching on to a rebounded Mubama effort but getting no luck. Took the opening goal of the game brilliantly, although he looked offside. Got a second when making the most of a spilled cross, scoring twice in the same game for only the second time in a West Ham shirt. Both with shots and creating them, he looked promising throughout. 8

Divin Mubama

The 18-year-old striker had a slow start into the game on debut but really grew into it when meeting a Scarles cross towards the end of the first half, only to see his effort saved. Got a head on a Coufal cross in the second half and celebrated wildly after it went in, via a huge deflection. Looked a threat during the second half, exhibiting strength and confidence before coming off towards the end. 7

Substitutes

Harrison Ashby

A first senior appearance since August for Harrison Ashby came at right wing-back, getting around 30 minutes of action. Attacked well and got back to defend at times when needed. 6

Freddie Potts

Freddie Potts was also given 30 minutes in the middle of midfield. Showed some good speed and passing, with a great ball late on that led to a chance. 6

Keenan Appiah-Forson

Keennan Forson came on as part of the triple change after an hour, attempting to latch on to a cross at the back post but failing. 5

Kamarai Swyer

Moyes handed out two more debuts with 15 minutes to go, Kamarai Swyer was one of them 5

Kaelan Casey

Coming on alongside Swyer was Kaelen Casey, taking the number of academy graduates Moyes has handed debuts to up to 16. 5
