West Ham manager David Moyes issues injury update ahead of Premier League fixture vs Man City

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed defender Kurt Zouma will be sidelined for "a few weeks" as they prepare to face Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Zouma went off injured in the Hammers' 4-3 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend, with the French centre-back suffering an ankle ligament injury as he attempted to block a shot from Jordan Ayew. The away side took the lead at Selhurst Park, but ultimately ended up on the wrong end of a thrilling encounter.

The 28-year-old was seen leaving the game on Saturday in a protective boot, and while Moyes admitted the club were still assessing the player, he suggested he was likely to be out for a number of weeks.

Asked about the Hammers' injury situation ahead of the clash with City in midweek, Moyes said: "We’ve got one or two knocks and niggles. Kurt Zouma is the biggest fear, we think we might lose Kurt for a few weeks, but we’re still sort of assessing his ankle at the minute."

The Scotsman was also full of praise for City striker Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian ace having registered 50 goals and eight assists in 44 appearances this season. Moyes admitted it is difficult to stop the 22-year-old, but praised he players around him for giving him the opportunities to thrive.

"It’s a good question, I don't think anybody knows the answer to that", he replied when asked how to stop Haaland. "I think that is probably the way it is. He’s been able to make it hard enough. I think he is the icing on the cake for them, I think they have got so many good players who can create chances and he’s such a good finisher.

"If you get him in those right positions, he is capable of scoring. I think they’ve got a great team and that’s topped off by Haaland."

Haaland scored twice on his Premier League debut for City in the reverse fixture against West Ham, with Pep Guardiola's side securing a 2-0 victory at the London Stadium.
