West Ham Jesse Lingard latest as Hammers reignite interest in Man Utd but face Newcastle battle

West Ham are once again in the market for Jesse Lingard with the club working hard to bring the England international back to the club.

The Hammers have made no secret of their desire to resign Lingard ever since his loan ended last summer and are once again making a push to bring the Manchester United man back to east London.

United have already rebuffed loan moves from both West Ham and Tottenham earlier in the window with Ralph Rangnick's club loath to strengthen a direct rival for a European spot.

Lingard has once again expressed his desire to his boyhood club to leave this window and Rangnick's has given his blessing to the departure. West Ham have since made a deadline day move to sign Lingard on loan for the remainder of the campaign but face a battle with Newcastle for the 29-year-old.

The Magpies believed they had a deal secured earlier in the window only for Eddie Howe's club to pull out over the size of the loan fee and other finances involved in the move such as a large bonus should they avoid relegation.

Newcastle are understood to be back in for Lingard as the deadline approaches with the Manchester Evening News reporting that England man would be open to a move to St James' Park.

Football.London understands that Lingard's preferred destination would be a return to West Ham, however, the decision rests in the hands of Manchester United and whether they will reconsider their stance on allowing Lingard to leave for a rival.

Any move for Lingard is likely to cost West Ham more than the deal 12 months ago with Manchester United aware of the bounce his signing gave David Moyes' team last season.
