West Ham: Jarrod Bowen a doubt to face Liverpool after missing training all week

Jarrod Bowen is a doubt for West Ham’s trip to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Illness has prevented Bowen from training all week, and manager David Moyes is yet to make a decision over the forward’s involvement at Anfield.

“Bowen has a virus”, Moyes revealed. “I’m hoping he’ll be ok. I’ll check him. He’s not trained this week, nothing at all, so I need to see how he is.”

Previewing the game against Liverpool, Moyes said: “When we get chances we have to take them and at Anfield. We must go and attack Liverpool as much as we can and try to challenge them.”

The Hammers, who sit sixth after an impressive start to the new Premier League season, on Thursday evening came from behind to beat Serbian side TSC Backa Topola 3-1 upon their return to the Europa League.

James Ward-Prowse added another two assists to bring his tally to six, plus two goals, across his first six matches since joining from relegated Southampton.

Moyes continued: “I would never use the word ‘replacement’, because I don’t think you can replace Declan [Rice] with one player, but James has given us another dimension.

“He’s played well. He’s added goals and assists. The top scoring midfield players —Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, I would go back longer to people like John Wark — James might not get as many goals as them, but he might get more assists than a lot of them. What he’s doing is really good for us.”
