West Ham have been given the final planning approval for a new statue of club legends Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters outside the London Stadium.

After a small amendment was formally signed off, the completed designs of the statue can now be sent off to a foundry for construction.

The statue depicts the trio of West Ham academy graduates and 1966 World Cup winners with England lifting the Cup Winners' Cup with the Hammers at Wembley in 1965, following their famous win over TSV Munich 1960.

Hurst himself, along with Roberta Moore, the daughter of the former West Ham and England captain and the family of Peters have all been involved in the planning for the statue.

“On behalf of everyone at West Ham United, we would like to thank Sir Geoff Hurst, Roberta Moore and Kathy Peters for their invaluable contribution and tremendous support for this project," said joint-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold.

"Despite the difficulties created by the global pandemic in recent months, we have been able to keep the creative process on schedule. Sir Geoff, Roberta and Kathy have been able to continue offering their fantastic input, and we could ensure everyone is happy with the final design. We look forward to the day we can unveil this magnificent statue for our supporters at London Stadium.”

The statue will be unveiled as the cornerstone of West Ham's 125th anniversary celebrations next year, before the end of the current Premier League season with the club hoping to have supporters able to attend proceedings once coronavirus restrictions ease.
