West Ham fans defended after Eintracht Frankfurt hooligans attack Hammers supporters in Seville

West Ham fans have been defended in Seville after an attack on the supporters by a group from Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening.

Videos emerged late on Wednesday night on social media of a large group of German supporters targeting the West Ham fans outside an Irish bar on the city's picturesque waterfront.

It was the second time in the day that the German fans had been involved in altercations, having clashed with police and Real Betis fans in the afternoon outside the Benito Villamarin Stadium ahead of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Some of the German supporters were seen brandishing wooden poles and throwing glass bottles into crowds of Hammers supporters outside an Irish bar in Seville.

O'Neills bar owner Michael Melia defended the West Ham fans and said the attack on them was totally unprovoked - adding that Hammers supporters were simply defending themselves.

"They were fantastic no trouble at all. All they did was defend themselves," Melia told football.london.

"It was the German fans who attacked them, the English were just in here singing having a drink, having a good time."

Outside the pub on Thursday morning there were remnants of the attack with broken glass strewn across the road. However, all was quiet in Seville with a large contingent of Hammers fans already soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a drink ahead of the last 16 Europa league match this evening.

Melia was keen to stress that there were no issues with the West Ham supporters and he was more than happy for them to come back to his bar and enjoy the rest of their trip in Spain.

He added: "They were fantastic. I hope they come back today and spend lots more money."
