West Ham become latest club to keep an eye on transfer availability of Bristol City star

West Ham have become the latest club to be keeping an eye on the availability of Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.

According to 90min, The Hammers are 'interested' in the in-form striker whose rich vein of form continues to attract interest both in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Manager David Moyes is reportedly eager to sign a new striker in the summer to provide competition alongside Michail Antonio in attack, particularly if they secure European football next season with the increase in matches.

The move is being spearheaded by Robins legend Rob Newman who is now Head of Recruitment at West Ham. He has been in attendance to watch the 22-year-old in action this season following his return from a knee injury in December.

The striker, who has scored five and assisted five in his last 10 matches, has a deal until 2023 although the club have the option to extend that contract for an extra year.

City opened contract talks with Semenyo last month with the desire for greater security over his future although those discussions remain ongoing with the forward likely to assess his options.

While Semenyo's contract situation remains unresolved, more clubs are likely to monitor his situation between now and the summer. Celtic, Nottingham Forest and RB Salzburg have recently been touted to be paying interest.

On Monday, Semenyo's agent Tony Finnegan revealed he had been contacted by Celtic scout Craig Strachan after the Scottish side watched him in action earlier last month.

Strachan was eager to learn about the striker's personality having started conducting background checks ahead of a potential summer transfer.

City have valued their key asset at around £20million, while Forest's January deadline day bid fell well short of that valuation.

After posting losses of £38.4m, City may well have to cash in on their assets to help meet the EFL's Profit & Sustainability rules and Semenyo may be one of those who could be sold if the price is right.

Last month, Pearson was defiant in his comments on Semenyo's future by first issuing a hands-off warning before claiming it would take "an awful lot of dough" for the club to consider letting him leave. Semenyo's stock continued to rise in January after he became the first City player to win the Championship Player of the Month since September 2017.

City also face a fight to keep hold of fellow talents Alex Scott and Han-Noah Massengo this summer who continue to attract interest across the Premier League and Europe.
