West Ham agree transfer fee with Burnley to sign Maxwel Cornet that may end Filip Kostic pursuit

West Ham United have agreed a fee with Burnley to sign winger Maxwel Cornet from the Clarets this summer.

The Hammers have been searching for a new versatile left-sided player who can also play at left wing-back, a bill which Cornet fits. David Moyes’ side had an interest in both him and Filip Kostic from Eintracht Frankfurt, but a bid accepted for Cornet could lead to the Ivory Coast international switching Turf Moor for the London Stadium.

Football.London understands the Hammers have agreed a fee with Vincent Kompany's side for Cornet, although no personal terms have been agreed as of yet. This comes a day after Moyes’ team also agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £33.5million to sign midfielder Amadou Onana from Lille.

However, reports have suggested that despite agreeing a fee with the Ligue 1 outfit, the 20-year-old would prefer a move to Everton, with others stating the Hammers are not prepared to meet his wage demands.

Should West Ham continue to pursue their interest in Cornet, it would mean a move for Kostic is unlikely. The Serbian helped Frankfurt win the Europa League last season and won the Europa League’s Player of the Tournament.

The Hammers were keen on Kostic and Cornet, but it was always a case of one or the other, meaning that Cornet is the most likely to arrive at the London Stadium with a bid now accepted for him.

A move for Cornet, previously reported to be around £20m, would take the Hammers to a summer spending of north of £100m, having already signed Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, and Gianluca Scamacca.
