West Ham have agreed to sign the Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme in a deal worth €30m (£25m). The clubs have been locked in talks this week and it is expected that the 18-year-old will become the first signing of the Julen Lopetegui era at the London Stadium.
There had been fears that the deal would fall apart after Guilherme, who is rated as one of the best young talents in Brazil, received interest from the Saudi Pro League. But West Ham refused to give up and are set to pay Palmeiras €23m (£19.5m) plus €7m in add-ons. There is also a 20% sell-on clause.
West Ham are looking for six to eight signings this summer. They have attempted to derail Bayer Leverkusen’s move for the Girona midfielder Aleix García. García is thought to have an agreement with Leverkusen but West Ham are not out of the running.
Lopetegui is looking for two centre-backs and is determined to sign a new forward. West Ham have been scouring Europe for a No 9. They also want a left-back and a left winger.
