West Ham 1-0 Southampton: Nayef Aguerd secures precious three points to ease pressure on David Moyes

West Ham secured a precious three points in their battle to stay up as they beat Southampton to ease the pressure on David Moyes.

Nayef Aguerd’s first-half header settled a nervy game that was low on quality at the London Stadium.

The win moves West Ham up to 14th in the Premier League and a point above the bottom three.

After a nervy start, West Ham went ahead on 25 minutes with their first effort on goal when Aguerd met a Thilo Kehrer free-kick to head home a huge goal. There was a long VAR check for offside but the goal stood in what felt like a huge moment in the season.

The returning Lukasz Fabianski made a brilliant save to deny Romain Perraud an immediate response but West Ham took control and Jarrod Bowen hit the bar in first-half injury time.

Said Benrahma went close with a free-kick in the second half, Southampton substitute Paul Onuachu hit the bar with a header late on but West Ham held on for a crucial win.
