Pupils across West Dunbartonshire are celebrating after receiving impressive results from the first year of formal examinations to take place since the pandemic.
A total of 77 percent of Highers taken by S5 and S6 pupils were passed, while 80 percent of National 5 examinations were successful.
In Advanced Higher, a 72 percent pass rate across the region was achieved, and National 4 results saw a 66 percent pass rate.
Across Scotland, the number of pupils achieving an A to C at Higher level dropped to 78.9 percent, which was down from 87.3 per cent in 2021.
However, the pass rate remains above the 74.8 percent level achieved in 2019 when traditional exams were last held in schools.
At Dumbarton Academy, creative pupils delivered a 100 percent pass rate in Art and Design and Music, whilst at Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School pupils achieved a 95 percent pass rate in Higher English and Advanced Higher Music.
National 4 pupils at Vale of Leven Academy achieved 100 percent pass rate in 20 subjects, including English, Mathematics and History.
In West Dunbartonshire, 94 percent of pupils presented for exams got at least one qualification.
The results, which were shared with pupils today, mean the area’s pupils have maintained their pre-pandemic performance for Highers, with some young people sitting exams for the first time in their educational career.
Councillor Clare Steel, Convener of Educational Services, said: “West Dunbartonshire’s pupils should be extremely proud of their achievements in these examinations.
“To undertake formal examinations for the first time, and deliver results that match the standards set before everyone’s world changed is a testament to their hard work and determination, not to mention their resilience.
“Credit is also due to the teachers and school staff who have worked tirelessly to support them to make the most of their future.”
Councillor Michelle McGinty, Vice Convener of Educational Services, said: “For many of these pupils, this will have been their first experience of sitting formal final exams, so for them to deliver this kind of performance – particularly at Higher level – is a tremendous achievement.
“I want to congratulate all our pupils on their hard work this year and wish them every success in the future.”
Laura Mason, Chief Education Officer, said: “We are proud of all of our pupils whose hard work throughout the year has seen them achieve such good results. These now allow them to move on to the next stage of their education – be that another year of school, university, college or an apprenticeship.
“Our goal now is to continue improving attainment and ensure every young person in West Dunbartonshire is supported to fulfil their potential.
“My thanks go to all our teaching and support staff who go above and beyond to support our young people.”
