West Dunbartonshire plans for new Clydebank homes are moving forward

Development of 127 new homes on a former leisure centre in Clydebank is moving forward after proposals were brought before West Dunbartonshire Council.

The fire-damaged Playdrome on Argyll Road was demolished in October 2021 leaving around 3.46 hectares of empty land, sold by the local authority to Miller Homes who have proposed a selection of semi-detached, terraced and townhouses.

Provided plans are given the green light, there will be 126 three-bedroom homes and one four-bedroom corner feature house proposed.

Of the three bedroom houses, 20 will be townhouses which will be 3 storeys in height. The remaining units will be 2 storeys in height.

The estate will be accessed through Chalmers Street with an emergency access and footway link provided off Argyll Road.

A pre-planning application was brought before the committee this morning.

Members asked for reassurances on how the emergency access point would be managed and were informed that collapsible bollards would allow emergency services access to the site when and if required.

Council officers also said that all open space would be for the wider public and wouldn't be closed off or fenced off.

Councillor James McElhill then said: “It says that parking is going to be at 100% plus visitors but it is probably worth bearing in mind the number of parking bays we are losing that are next to Chalmers street.

“It seems that parking bays have been taken away and replaced for residents.”

An officer confirmed that there will be visitor parking in residential parking zones as well as electric vehicle charging points.

Miller Homes will now submit a full planning application to the council for approval.
