Ensuring the development of 140 new homes in Bellsmyre goes smoothly will be a top priority for councillors elected later this week.
Proposals to demolish 220 blocks of flats in Bellsmyre to make way for 140 new homes were given the green light by West Dunbartonshire Council in February this year.
The new homes are being developed at Bardwood Hill, Aitkenbar Drive, Howatshaws Road, Stoneyflatt Road and Braeside Drive by Caledonia Housing Association.

During a public consultation it was revealed that people do not want to live in flats any more which is why the housing association will construct a mixture of two two-bedroom wheelchair accessible flats, 28 one-bedroom cottage flats, 49 two-bedroom terrace houses, 27 three-bedroom terrace houses and eight four-bedroom detached houses.
As well as the entire Bellsmyre area, the ward covers the southern parts of the Vale of Leven including Alexandria, Bonhill, Dalmonach and Renton, plus the northern parts of Dumbarton including streets north/west of Townend Road as well as the modern Lomondgate development and Broadmeadow Industrial Estate.
2017 Results
The 2017 election saw a 437% voter turnout with 5893 valid ballot papers and 155 rejected ballots.
The first preference vote received of each of the elected candidates was:
Ian Dixon - SNP - 1353
Jim Bollan - West Dunbartonshire Community Party - 1291
John Millar - Labour - 946
Caroline McAlister - formally SNP - 673
2022 candidates
There are eight candidates fighting for the chance to become one of the four councillors for this ward.
Councillors Bollan and Millar are hoping to win a fourth term in office as they were first elected in 2007. Councillor Ian Dixon who was elected in 2017, and is hoping to serve the ward for another five years.
Councillor McAlister, who was elected in 2017 as a SNP before defecting to the Alba party, is not standing for re-election in the ward.
