Lease of West Bridgford fish and chip shop on the market

The lease of fish and chip shop, The Wolds Fish Bar, is marketed for sale. The busy takeaway located on the Loughborough Road in West Bridgford has been placed on the market for £249,950.

The family-run premises has been a takeaway for the last thirty years. The current owners who are looking to retire have had the takeaway for the past eight years but were unavailable for comment.

Although trading has been difficult for stores due to Covid and lockdown, the store is described online as having a 'high turnover' of £9000 per week. The shop has been praised for their food along with gluten free fish and chip options.

The shop was refurbished in 2017 with over £100,000 invested to include a new refit, new equipment, fixtures and fittings which are all included in the sale price.

It follows the sale of Ruby's News, a newsagents and grocery on the same street earlier this year and the closure of the nearby HSBC bank.

Local resident Jeremy Graham said: "Its always busy around here because of the newsagents, laundry and fish bar. It will always be a good little parade of shops. I didn't know that the fish bar was being sold and hadn't heard. I come here once or twice a week but Ruby's news is always very popular. I wish them the best of luck."

Shahid Mohammed commented: "It's sad to see the takeaway being sold because we often eat from here. Its another local business that has been sold so its changing the landscape here a lot. But as long as another food business comes along that is convenient then I suppose that is progress isn't it?"

June Melvin has been working next door to the takeaway and Ruby's News for twenty years. She was surprised to hear that the lease was up for sale but says it won't affect business

She said: "I didn't know they were being sold. I knew that the newsagents had changed hands but it hasn't affected us. It wont make much of a difference to ourselves as it will still function as a fish and chip shop. Business is pretty sporadic around here and we are pretty quiet today but other days we can be really busy.

She added: "We survived the pandemic and we are still here. People still need their laundry doing."
