West Bengal: Entry gates at Nabanna to get Radio Frequency Identification sensors

KOLKATA: The security officials are planning to install special RFID sensors at the Nabanna entry gates to enhance vigilance. The upgrade comes after a recent security breach at chief minister Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence.

Some of the magnetic flap gates have already been brought to the south gate - used by employees to enter the secretariat - during this weekend. This technology is likely to be installed in the north gates too and will be operational by this month.

The staff identity cards too need RFID tags. However, for visitors and staff from other offices, cards will be issued with RFID tags. An official said that the visitors are now screened thoroughly and their photographs captured before entering. Plans are on to allot access control RFID cards for visitors.
