West Belfast man arrested as part of hoax explosive device call investigation

A West Belfast man has been arrested as part of an investigation into hoax calls, including a report of an explosive device in Poleglass.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit carried out a search of a property in the Dunmurry area on Friday, April 21, and arrested a 46 year-old man.

It is part of an ongoing investigation into hoax calls which includes an incident in March where an explosive device was reported in Poleglass.

Following the search a number of items were taken away for further examination.

A 46-year-old man has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Brannigan said: “A 46 year old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences as part of an ongoing investigation into a number of hoax calls, including a report of an explosive device being left in Poleglass in March.

“A number of items were taken away during the search for further examination.

"The man has since been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries. The investigation continues and anyone with any information is asked to call Police on 101 quoting reference 788 of 13/03/23."
