Wesley Fofana breaks silence after Chelsea injury in Brentford friendly amid Reece James message

Wesley Fofana has spoken out after football.london learnt that the 22-year-old injured his knee in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford on Tuesday.

Chelsea are back in competitive action on December 27 and were hopeful that Fofana could continue to step up his recovery from a previous knee injury suffered in early October. This set back comes as a major frustration having already missed the World Cup and a large chunk of the season gaining fitness.

Graham Potter's men won their preparation match 5-1 against Brentford with Kai Havertz scoring a hat-trick, whilst it is understood that Mason Mount, Thiago Silva and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all missed the match.

As for Fofana, he went off holding his knee and raised concerns of yet another long-term injury for Potter to deal with after Armando Broja was ruled out for the rest of the season in another friendly earlier this month. Fofana has come out and addressed the speculation though.

An Instagram fan page for the player wrote: "Wesley Fofana was again injured in a behind-the-scenes game against Brentford. The severity of his injury is not yet known. Courage Wesley, we are with you in this extremely difficult new ordeal."

However, the defender himself calmed the fanbase down, replying: "Nothing bad champions in not even 1 month we're back to break everything."

Reece James, who has also spent time out recently with an injury, sent words of support for his teammate, writing on Instagram: "The $oul never dies, u gotta love ur life, it's gonna be hard at times. but I promise darkness turns to light, it's gonna be alright, im w (with) you brother."

It looks unlikely that he will be part of the Premier League squad for next week's match, but with such a busy second half to the second, Fofana will have time to recover.
