The players and officials at a Welsh rugby club have bared all for a great cause.
Crymych RFC have raised an impressive £30,000 through producing a naked calendar.
The money will go towards supporting local six-year-old boy Owen James, who has Pitt Hopkins syndrome, a rare, genetic, neurological disorder. The funds will be used to help with his development needs and provide equipment and support for his growth and well-being. Owen is the son of Crymych’s team manager Iwan James.
The naked calendar features photographs of the Pembrokeshire club’s rugby team, their coaches and some of the committee members in various poses.
Player Carwyn Rees, who came up with the idea, said: “We’re thrilled to have raised such an incredible amount for the fund and to know our efforts will be making a real difference to Owen and his family. With Iwan being our team manager, him and his family are a big part of our community with Owen being our number one supporter at all home games. Therefore it has been great to give something back.”
Owen’s father Iwan said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Crymych Rugby Club and their supporters in raising such a significant amount for Owen. The money will go a long way in providing our son with the support and resources he needs to reach his full potential. We cannot express our gratitude enough and want to thank everyone involved in making this possible.”
Gwenan Davies, who helped with organising and promoting the calendar, added: “We would like to extend our thanks to the players, sponsors, local businesses and shops who stocked and sold the calendar and to everyone who supported us and helped us to exceed our fundraising goal by a phenomenal amount. To raise such an astonishing amount of money, especially during these hard financial times, goes to show what a special community we have here in Crymych.”
