A Welsh rugby match was abandoned after an injured player was left waiting an hour for an ambulance.
Abercarn's National League 3E clash with Rhymney RFC was called off roughly midway through the second-half after one of Abercarn's players was injured in an aerial collision. The emergency services were contacted immediately amid fears the player had suffered a significant injury.
The incident happened when Rhymney were leading 24-12.
"About 20 mins into the second-half, one of our players got injured in a collision from a restart," said Abercarn team manager Antony Day.
"We suspected a significant neck or back injury so had to wait for an ambulance.
"The wait for a a first responder paramedic was about 45 minutes, with an ambulance then arriving about 15 minutes later.
"Thankfully, after being admitted to hospital, they've found he's not suffered any breaks.
"He's got a concussion and some bruising, but he's currently on the road to recovery. We'll now go through the WRU return to play protocols."
A number of other clubs, as well as WRU Community Director Geraint John, offered their best wishes to the player on social media, responding to a tweet from the home club following the cancellation.
