Welsh rugby derby ends amid wild scenes and a classy dressing room gesture

Newport RFC managed to pull off a thrilling last-minute 18-17 victory over major rivals Cardiff in the Welsh Premiership.

A masterful drop-goal from Matt O'Brien with the last play of the game from the 10m line won it for the visitors at the Arms Park on Saturday, prompting wild celebrations for the Black and Ambers players and fans for downing the defending league champions.

You can watch the decisive moment in full below:

But it wasn't just their on-field antics which impressed: Newport left their changing room in pristine condition after the win, leaving Arms Park head groundsman Matthew Jones singing their praises.

"A massive thank you to Newport RFC for the way they left the changing rooms after today's game against Cardiff RFC, " he said on Twitter, alongside a snap of the clean and tidy away changing room.

Newport RFC replied to say: "Pleasure. Thanks for the warm welcome and all the best for the rest of the season."

The Gwent side's win was revenge for a defeat to Cardiff earlier in the season. Back in September, Cardiff managed to stop the rot against their oldest rivals to end a run of four successive defeats by beating Newport 34-32 at Newport Stadium.

Newport next face Llandovery on Saturday, January 21, at Newport Stadium, while Cardiff are away to Ebbw Vale (both 2.30pm kick-offs).
