Welsh Masterchef contestant felt like he was 'going to faint' as he made it through to the final eight

Welsh contestant Ioan Jones has secured his place in the final eight of Masterchef with judge Gregg Wallace promising “lots more to come” in the competition. The Ruthin cook said that he felt like he was "going to faint” as he made it to the next stage of the popular cookery show.

During the episode on Tuesday, April 26, the semi-finalists had to create a three-course menu that they would be proud to serve in their own restaurant. The chefs set out to impress not only the judges but also, 20 past Masterchef quarter-finalists - all of whom have gone on to have full-time careers in the food industry.

The 38-year-old marketing manager’s previous dishes have been described as "ambitious" and "classic with a twist’" Following his chocolate dessert at an earlier stage in the competition, Gregg Wallace questioned: “What else does he have up his sleeve?"

Ioan’s dessert - a sticky toffee apple pudding with compressed apple, pecan crumb and a celeriac ice cream - was met with a positive reaction from Gregg Wallace, who is known for his love of sweet things.

After a rush to complete the dish, the mouth-watering sticky toffee pudding was described as a “great tasting dessert” and praised for its richness and sweetness. One former contestant even described the dish as the "best" of the entire day. The only note Ioan was given was on presentation - something which wasn’t perfect due to the fact he was up against the clock.
