The Welsh Government is "very keen" to allow gyms to re-open, the First Minister has said.
It comes after First Minister, Mark Drakeford, told the sector an announcement would be made on Friday.
Gyms have been closed across Wales since lockdown, and they have not yet been told when they can re-open.
Earlier this week, people in Wales were still left clueless as to when they would be able to enter an indoor gym or swimming pool.
Gyms opened in England last week and many people in Wales are desperate to know when they can next attend a spin class, play indoor sports like badminton or squash, go for a swim, pound a treadmill or lift some weights.
Now it looks like there may be a little more hope for members and gym-goers after all.
There had been some expectations that the First Minister would set a date for their re-opening at the Welsh Government's next three week review this Friday, July 31.
"I understand, for lots of people going to the gym, having that bit of fitness is a really important part of their lives," Mr Drakeford told Capital South Wales Radio Station.
"We are very keen to be able to allow that sector to reopen."
The First Minister added: "We know that coronavirus thrives in noisy places where people are expelling air, where it's hot and it's sweaty and all of that.
"We've been working hard with the gym sector over the last couple of weeks. I'll be making announcements on Friday."
