Welsh farmer caught in brutal blizzard as Storm Noa hits

Welsh farmer and presenter Gareth Wyn Jones was caught in "brutal" weather in Eryri as his coat froze in a blizzard. The cold and windy weather arrived in north Wales as recently-named Storm Noa hit the UK.

The farmer from Llanfairfechan, Conwy, who presents BBC One's The Family Farm, told his 58,000 followers: "Bloody hell the weather changed quickly. I hope they find the missing lady in Eryri because it’s brutal here at the minute."

His comments referred to Ausra Plungiene, who went missing with her dog in the national park on Tuesday. A rescue helicopter was searching above Eryri on Wednesday morning and people have been urged to tell police if they have any information.

Mr Jones filmed himself battling against the wind and snow with his coat visibly frozen, saying: "Wow, it's unbelievable how quick the weather changes, and I've just been caught in this snowstorm. Gotta look for shelter for five minutes.

He added: "There's a lady missing on Eryryi, Snowdonia," saying he hoped she was found safe. Parts of his video, posted on Wednesday morning, were inaudible because of the strong winds.

Storm Noa has caused significant disruption across Wales, closing the M4 Briton Ferry Bridge and M48 Severn Bridge, and has brought snow and rain to north Wales. Meteo France named it as a storm and the Met Office followed suit.

Gusts of up to 70mph have been predicted across the UK, especially in coastal areas across Wales and the south west of England. You can follow updates on the storm with our live blog here.
