Welsh choir breaks out in song in Qatar bar

A Welsh choir broke out into song just hours after Wales' heartbreaking loss to Iran in their second game of the 2022 World Cup. Rob Page's men are now bottom of Group B after being beaten 2-0 by Carlos Queiroz's side on Friday, with Rouzbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian scoring in second-half injury-time after Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off.

They must now beat England on Tuesday to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the tournament. If Iran's game against the United States ends in anything less than a draw, then Wales must win by four goals against Gareth Southgate's side in order to qualify from the group. But even with Wales' hopes of staying in Qatar now hanging by a thread, the nightmare result was not enough to dampen the spirits of some members of the Red Wall, who soldiered on and kept spirits high in a way that the Welsh do best. Just hours after watching Gareth Bale's side fall to defeat at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, members of Aelwyd Dyffryn Clwyd choir from Denbighshire lifted spirits in a sombre Qatar bar by breaking into song.

Their spine-tingling rendition of Gwahoddiad (Arglwydd Dyma Fi) drew attraction from around the bar, with several others in Wales shirts and bucket hats joining in. The group helped to keep the feel-good factor rolling on despite the less-than-ideal circumstances, with Welsh fans having at least another four days to enjoy their side being at a World Cup.

It's not the first time during the tournament that a local bar has been filled with Welsh song. Ahead of Wales' opening game against the USA, legendary singer Dafydd Iwan gave travelling fans a moment they'll never forget by turning up at a hotel in Doha and leading a rousing rendition of Yma o Hyd. You can read more about that here.
