Well known Irish celebrity appears in court on child sex charges

A leading celebrity has appeared in court on child sex charges, it has emerged.

The well-known figure has been charged with defilement of a child and appeared in court in Dublin, reports the Irish Mirror

The man, who is in his 30s, is charged with three counts of defilement of a child under the age of 17. The offences are alleged to have happened in Dublin more than a decade ago.

The man was arrested and charged by detectives from the Kevin Street Divisional Protective Services Unit, which is based in south central Dublin.

That team of specially-trained officers investigates allegations of sex crimes in the south Dublin area.

He appeared in Dublin District Court on Tuesday morning and was released on bail. He is due back in court again on March 24.

It’s understood gardai started investigating the celebrity after a female made allegations against him.

Sources confirmed the celebrity has been charged with three counts of defilement, which is the crime of sexual contact with a child under the age of 17.

The maximum penalty for that offence in Irish law is five years in prison – or double that if the courts decide the offender held a position of power.
