The Wrexham love is real. The lovable iconic Welsh football team has garnered a lot of attention with the FX documentary Welcome to Wrexham that takes viewers on the journey of actors Rob McElhenney (Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) purchasing the club.
Wrexham will be heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina on July 19 to face Chelsea in the first ever neutral site matchup between the two squads. It took four days for the match to officially sell out after tickets went live to the public, and it’s certain to make for a fantastic inaugural game at UNC’s Kenan Stadium.

Usually home to Tar Heel football, this will be the first international football (soccer) game at Kenan. Molly Pendleton, a UNC graduate and head of touring business and operations for Unified Events was instrumental in bringing the game to her home state.
“The excitement around this match has been incredible,” Pendleton said in an event release. “As a North Carolina native and Tar Heel grad, I cannot wait to see Kenan Stadium packed with Chelsea and Wrexham fans this July.”
This game is part of the FC Series, which has been running since 2015. Wrexham is also scheduled to play Manchester United in San Diego on July 26. That game will be part of Manchester United’s summer training tour.
