WEKU’s Sam Dick inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame

WEKU’s Sam Dick is one of five journalists honored by the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in a ceremony on March 31 at the University of Kentucky Gatton Student Center.

Dick came out of retirement in 2022 to report for 88.9 WEKU after a three-decade journalism career at WKYT-TV.

Dick says he is very humbled and appreciative of this honor. “There are many, many people through the last 45 years of my broadcast career who taught me, supported me, and elevated me along this journey of journalism. Thank you to all of them. And I am especially honored that I follow in my late father’s footsteps, former CBS Correspondent David Dick, who was also inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.”

WEKU Director and General Manager Mike Savage says Dick continues to engage Kentuckians through his special WEKU series, Off the Beaten Path. “Sam has a special talent for telling stories about Kentuckians and Off the Beaten Path series has been very well received by our audience. Sam is an icon in Kentucky Journalism. We are lucky to have such a good journalist on the WEKU team.”

The Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame honors native Kentucky journalists or those who spent a significant portion of their careers working for Kentucky news media. Others being inducted into the hall of fame include the late John Fetterman, a Courier-Journal reporter, Kim Greene, a Louisville lawyer and First Amendment champion, Dave Kindred, former Courier-Journal sportswriter and columnist and the late William Warley, founder and editor of The Louisville News.

Dick’s Off the Beaten Path Stories air twice per month on 88.9 WEKU. An archive of his work can be found at https://www.weku.org/off-the-beaten-path-with-sam-dick
