The weight of the corpse body of an organ donor helped saved the life of a hearse driver after a crash left the car dangling over the Colorado canyon.
Hubbard and Son's funeral home service were transferring a body for an organ donation in the back of a hearse during a snow evening on January 29.
The driver, who has not been named, was being extra vigilant due to the hazardous conditions when a motorist in a red Durango suddenly went speeding past.
The hearse driver decided to switch lanes to get out of the way but lost control on the icy roads at around 3am.
He was then launched towards the barrier on the edge of the road and crashed through it - but fortunately came to a sudden stop.
However, he was teetering over the Colorado canyon and only remained there due to the weight of the body in the car, according to his family.
The front wheels of the car were suspended over the canyon as the organ donors body kept the driver alive.
The driver was left desperately waiting for help before emergency services came to his rescue before revealing the organ donor he was driving was, in fact, saving his life.
A police officer who turned up to help the driver was even heard on his bodycam saying: "That's a lucky mother*****r right there" as he walked towards the dangling car.
The man, who declined to be interviewed on camera, told CBS he was stunned to hear the patient he was carrying ended up helping him.
The lucky driver was reported to have escaped injured without any major injuries, according to reports.
Cheryl Talley, director of communications for Donor Alliance, said she was not able to comment specifically on this case but praised anyone who signs up to become an organ donor.
She said: "Being an organ donor and registering as an organ donor is the most generous thing that somebody can do, is giving the gift of life to somebody who has no chance at a life without that possible transplant.
"It's easy to become a organ, eye and tissue donor. If you aren't already -- and Donor Alliance said 66% of Coloradans are -- you can make the switch to save a life very simply.
"We always need more to register because we'd like to see 100% of people in Colorado registering to be organ donors because the need is so great.
"Nearly 1,500 people are waiting for lifesaving transplants in Colorado today."
