The nutrition expert told the Mirror: "Science shows that the most effective way to lose weight is by following a diet that incorporates intermittent fasting, time restricted eating and the Mediterranean diet.

"Which is why I came up with The Fast 800."

Here's four key tips recommended by Dr Mosley to help you lose weight.

Cut down on sugar

Dr Mosley recommends that anyone hoping to lose weight quickly should "cut right down on sugar, sugary treats, drinks and desserts."

He explained: "That includes most breakfast cereals, which are usually full of sugar, as well as most commercial smoothies."

Dr Mosley says to init your food and drink containing more than 5% sugar to "no more than twice a week".

He explained: "To make a serious impact on your belly fat, cutting out sugar spikes is key.

“A surprising number of 'diet' snacks and drinks are high in sugar and are marketed as diet foods because they happen to be low in fat."

High-intensity training

Exercise it vital for many reasons. Dr Mosley said: "It's amongst the best things you can do for a long and healthy life."

However, keep in mind that exercise alone isn't enough to get rid of fast. But it will increase your chances of keeping it off.

Limit starchy carbs

Dr Mosley recommends to limit starchy carbs like bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice.

Instead, he recommends switching to whole grains like bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat."

He added: "Brown rice is okay. Legumes such as lentils, kidney beans and chickpeas are healthy and filling too."

On what you should eat instead, he advises: "Switching “to a low carbohydrate, Mediterranean-style diet."

This includes adding more olive oil and nuts to your diet alongside plenty of eggs, full-fat yoghurt, oily fish and vegetables.

He also recommends filling up on protein and veggies as they are "very satiating," for only a few calories.

Intermittent fasting

According to Dr Mosley, intermittent fasting can make fat burning easier.

In Dr Mosley's Fast 800 plan, fasting days shouldn't involve eating more than 800 calories.

He explained: "Not only do you simply lose weight by eating fewer calories, but your body responds to the stress of fasting by enhancing hormone function to facilitate weight loss and burn fat for energy.

"Short-term fasting can lead to several changes in the body that make fat burning easier."
