Weight Loss Injections Causing 'Ozempic Face' Trend Among Patients

Weight loss injections, particularly the use of Ozempic, have gained popularity among patients seeking to manage their weight. Ozempic, a prescription medication approved by the FDA for individuals with type 2 diabetes, is a form of semaglutide, also known as Wegovy. This medication impacts satiety in the brain and has become a recent trend in Hollywood for weight loss.

One individual, Jeniffer Brown, shared her success story of losing 40 lbs. in a year and reaching her goal weight of 125 lbs. without altering her diet or exercise routine through the use of Ozempic. However, she experienced unwanted side effects commonly referred to as 'Ozempic face,' characterized by loose skin and sunken cheeks due to fat loss.

Plastic surgeons like Dr. Oren Tepper have noted that rapid weight loss can lead to facial deflation, making individuals appear older. To address the 'Ozempic face,' patients may opt for procedures such as dermal fillers in areas like the cheeks, jowls, and jawline.

Restoring facial volume often involves noninvasive yet costly treatments like injecting fillers or undergoing procedures like face lifts or fat transfers. Dr. John Diaz mentioned that a significant portion of his patients are using Ozempic or similar weight loss injections, with many seeking plastic surgery to address changes in their appearance.

Dr. Alan Matarasso highlighted that Ozempic has prompted a new demographic to consider the benefits of plastic surgery, as individuals on this medication may notice changes not only in their face but also in other body areas. The demand for procedures to counteract the effects of 'Ozempic face' reflects the intersection of weight loss and cosmetic concerns among patients.
