Weight loss coach shares Aldi's best low-calorie barbecue items

A TikToker has shared his go-to lean and low-calorie protein barbecue items from Aldi. The weight loss coach lost 18 stone whilst eating his favourites by following a calorie-controlled diet.

Neil Scurrah, 41, from Blackpool, reached his heaviest weight of 36st 10lb in 2013, stating that “food was my drug addiction”. After battling the “demons” that triggered him to emotionally overeat, the accountant turned weight loss coach transformed his life by sticking to a calorie deficit.

Now Neil, who shares his tips daily on his social media @the_real_loss_boss , has listed his top eight lean protein options from Aldi that are low-calorie and perfect to throw on the barbie. All of the options are under 150 calories.

In the video Neil is seen picking up his lean favourites in Aldi’s meat and fish aisles. First up is Aldi’s Ashfields’ Grill Firecracker Chicken Breast Sizzlers, costing £2.99 for 350g, and totalling 145 calories per sizzler.

Next, Neil picks up Ashfields’ Grill BBQ Beef Kebabs, which are just 5% Fat, and 106 calories per kebab. They cost £3.29 for 320g.

Neil’s third choice is an essential for every barbecue, a classic burger with less than 3% fat - Ashfields’ Grill Lean Beef Quarter Pounders . The burgers are a slim 112 calories each and cost £3.49 for 454g.

For that irreplaceable sizzle, Neil picks up a pack of Oakhurst Lean Bacon, coming in at only 54 calories for two medallions. They cost £1.99 for eight rashers.

Next up is another barbecue classic, the chicken burger. Aldi’s Ash Valley Grill Chicken Quarter pounders are just 5% fat, 142 calories each, and cost £2.79 for 454g.

It wouldn’t be a barbecue without sausages, and Neil has picked out the best lean low calorie options in Aldi, first up Aldi’s Specially Selected British Skinny Pork Sausages Made With 100% British Pork. These total 146 calories for two sausages, costing £2.19 for six sausages, 400g.

Next, Neil picks up Ashfields’ Italian Style Chicken Chipolatas, costing £2.19 for ten sausages, 340g. These are just 104 calories for two.

Last but not least is an option for those who prefer fish on their barbies, the Specially Selected Wild Caught Yellowfin Tuna Steaks, coming in at only 102 calories each. These cost £3.99 for two, 200g.

Neil’s approach to weight loss is based on sticking to a weekly calorie deficit, meaning that there’s no need to avoid any of your favourite junk foods or “forbidden” food groups as long as they fall within your calorie allowance.

He tells his followers: “No food makes you fat. No food makes you thin. Certain foods just contain more calories than others. Part of a successful weight loss journey is creating a good relationship with food.”
