Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has broken his silence following the shocking arrest of his wife, author and true crime writer Jillian Lauren, who was shot by police in Los Angeles.
Lauren, 51, was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 8, after an incident in a residential neighbourhood involving police and a group of hit-and-run suspects.
According to authorities, officers encountered Lauren during their search and claim she pointed a firearm at them and refused to lower it when instructed.
She was reportedly shot by police, fled to her nearby home, and was later taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury in the north-east Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the confrontation began around 3:25pm, when officers responded to a call from the California Highway Patrol for assistance in tracking three suspects who had abandoned their vehicle and run into a local neighbourhood.
On Thursday, Shriner, 59, was approached outside his home by a reporter for the New York Post.

When asked about his wife’s condition, he said, “She’s alright, thank you for asking,” before declining to share more details.
In an unexpected turn, he added: “See you at Coachella,” referring to the band’s upcoming appearance at the California music festival.
According to the LAPD, officers were in the middle of a search for hit-and-run suspects in a residential area when they encountered a woman in the yard of a neighbouring home—later identified as Lauren—who was allegedly holding a handgun.
Police say they gave multiple commands for her to drop the weapon, but claim she refused and pointed it at officers. “An Officer-Involved Shooting occurred,” they said in a statement.
A 9mm handgun was later recovered from the home.
She was being held on $1 million bail, LA County jail records showed.
Lauren is the author of two bestselling memoirs, 2010's Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and 2015's Everything You Ever Wanted.
Meanwhile, Shriner’s band Weezer is preparing for a busy summer of performances.
The group is scheduled to take the stage at Coachella in the coming weeks and will return to Glastonbury in June, marking their first appearance at the iconic festival in 30 years
Lauren and Shriner married in 2005, and they have two children.
