Weekly coronavirus cases down 17 per cent as numbers continue to plummet across Greater Manchester

Weekly recorded cases of coronavirus across Greater Manchester are down 17 per cent, the newest figures have revealed.

Infection rates across Greater Manchester are continuing to plummet and have fallen in all of its ten boroughs.

Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 855.9 cases per 100,000 people as of January 26.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 648.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 724.5 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 976.5 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 20,544 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 26.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 4,069 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 17 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 23, a total of 676 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 291 fewer than the week before, a fall of 76 per cent.

On Tuesday January 25, there were 31 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is seven fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending January 26, a total of 90 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 28 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 802,118 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,448 deaths.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

Salford

Salford is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 674.2 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1771 cases recorded in Salford, which is 447 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 20 per cent.

Bolton

Bolton saw a total of 2026 cases in the week ending January 26, which is 579 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 22 per cent.

In Bolton, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 702.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 1944 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 26, which is 402 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 17 per cent.

Wigan

The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 2363 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 26, which is 388 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 14 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Wigan is 714.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Stockport

There were 2290 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 15 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Stockport is down by one per cent and the latest infection rate is 778.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester

In Manchester, the number of cases is down by 18 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 691.5 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 3843 positive Covid-19 tests in Manchester in the week ending January 26, which was 841 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Trafford

In Trafford, the latest infection rate is 770.7 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 11 per cent.

A total of 1831 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on January 26, which is 229 fewer than the week before.

Bury

Bury recorded 1387 coronavirus cases, which is 355 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 727.3 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 20 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1541 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 26, which is 383 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 648.5 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 20 per cent week-on-week.

Rochdale

There was a fall of 22 per cent in cases in Rochdale over the week ending January 26, and the infection rate is now 692.1 cases per 100,000 population.

Rochdale recorded 1548 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 430 fewer than the previous week.
