A brief burst of heavy rain is set to put a dampener on the weekend in Nottingham as downpours spread across the UK. The unsettled conditions are also set to bring gusty winds and even snow to parts of the country.
So far the Met Office has issued two severe yellow weather warnings for rain in south England and parts of Wales on Saturday (Jan 7). The alerts warn of potential flooding, difficult driving conditions and travel disruption due to heavy downpours.
Across the rest of the nation, it will be a similar picture as heavy rain takes the lead - especially on Saturday morning. A Met Office spokesperson said: "Persistent and occasionally heavy rain, with low cloud clearing eastwards through the morning.

"Sunshine and some heavy showers through the afternoon. Windy throughout, especially over hills and along coasts. Maximum temperature 11C." There's likely to be more downpours on Sunday as the unsettled conditions linger.
The spokesperson added: "Unsettled Sunday and Monday, with periods of persistent and occasionally heavy rain, interspersed with heavy showers and briefer drier spells." Further north, snow is expected to fall, as much as several centimetres, according to maps from WXCharts. The data suggests up to 25 centimetres falling in Scotland and some possible flurries along northern England.
BBC weather forecaster Darren Bett said: "We’ve got this strong and blustery wind, that’s going to feed in some sunshine but we are also going to find quite a few showers, some of those are going to be heavy and it is just about cold enough for a little bit of snow over the tops of the mountains."
In Nottingham, rain is set to drench the city on Saturday from 6am to 1pm, with the heaviest downpours expected to peak between 8-11am, according to the Met Office. Wind gusts could also reach close to 40mph.
In the evening, it's due to stay mostly cloudy but further showers could arrive around 5pm. It will feel quite mild however, with highs of 11C and lows of 6C.
On Sunday, it's on course to stay dry for the majority of the day, with a possible shower around mid-afternoon. It will feel slightly cooler at 8C during the day and 4C overnight. It'll be more of the same on Monday, but Tuesday is likely to be the wettest day in Nottingham next week, with more heavy rain predicted.
