Week 5 Challenge: Where To Find 3 Rift Portal Locations In 'Fortnite: Battle Royale'

Fortnite’s Crack in the Sky.

Fortnite’s Week 5, Season 5 challenges are out, and one of them might have you a little bit stumped if you’re not up on your Fortnite terminology. It asks you to track down three rift portals across the map, a phrase that people have used in online discourse but I’m not entirely sure have ever been spelled out in-game before. Regardless, you’ll want to find 3 of them to complete this week’s challenge, and here are the locations where you’ll need to look, and what you’ll be looking for. Check below for a map, as well.

Rift Portals are new map objects for Season 5. Basically, they’re tears in the fabric of space and time, which is a sort of generic sci-fi phrase that doesn’t really mean much at the end of the day. But they look like floating blue disruptions on the ground, so let’s look at one here:

A rift portal in Fortnite: Battle Royale.

When you enter into a rift portal you’ll be teleported up into the air, where you’ll have the opportunity to deploy your glider and swoop in on an opponent. They’re a great addition to gameplay here in Season 5, giving you a way to travel longer distances, escape tight spots and get the drop on unsuspecting enemies. They’re analogous to hop rocks, which were sort of the signature item of Season 4.

The only problem for those out hunting for rift portals is that they do not appear to spawn in fixed locations. Rather they seem to cluster in general areas that more or less correlate to some of the new areas and items we’ve seen pop up on the map. That means things like Moai Heads and places like the whole desert biome and the Viking Village by Snobby Shores. Here’s a map of where to look–again, these are not particular locations so much as they are general areas:

Head to those areas and you should be able to fill the challenge without too much trouble. Again, the spawning is a bit random, though it is also possible they spawn at fix locations, just not all the time. We’ll see when people have done a little more research after the challenge has gone live, but for now going to these places in the map should handily get you the required number.
