Week 14 Start ’Em, Sit ’Em: Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups based on a PPR scoring system in fantasy football. This column will not cover the elite players in the NFL like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey or Justin Jefferson. Instead, I'll look at the players you have questions about who could exceed or fail to meet expectations at each position. For all of your final fantasy lineup decisions, be sure to check out my weekly player rankings which will be updated daily throughout the 2023 NFL season.

Week 14 Start ’Em: Quarterbacks

Start of the Week

Jerome Miron/USA TODAY Sports

Dak Prescott vs. Eagles (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC): Prescott has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy football this season, and he’s a must start in what will be a huge game against the Eagles. Their defense has been awful against quarterbacks, allowing 19-plus points seven times and 28-plus points five times. That includes Prescott’s 28.4 fantasy points against them back in Week 9.

Start ’Em

Tua Tagovailoa vs. Titans (Mon. 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN): Tagovailoa, listed as the start of the week last week, scored 19.2 points in less than four quarters in a win over the Commanders. He should remain in starting lineups, as his next matchup is favorable against the Titans. Over the last four weeks, their porous defense has allowed an average of 19.3 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.

Brock Purdy vs. Seahawks (4:05 p.m. ET, Fox): Purdy was fantastic last week, throwing four touchdown passes and scoring almost 30 points in a win over the Eagles. He has now scored 20-plus points in three of his last four games, and I’d stick with him against the Seahawks. Over the last four weeks, their defense has allowed an average of more than 18 fantasy points per game to field generals.

Jordan Love at Giants (Mon. 8:15 p.m. ET, ABC): Love has been on fire in the last three weeks, scoring a combined 71 fantasy points. He’s thrown for multiple touchdowns in four straight games, too, doing it even against a tough Chiefs defense last week, and a matchup against the Giants makes him a strong option. Since Week 10, quarterbacks have averaged 18.9 points against Big Blue.

Russell Wilson at Chargers (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Wilson’s numbers have not been great in recent weeks, but he’s still giving fantasy fans a decent floor. I like his ceiling this week, too, as the veteran faces a Chargers defense that’s allowed an average of 290.1 passing yards and 18.8 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. I’d start the veteran in what could be a shootout.

Week 14 Sit ’Em: Quarterbacks

Sit of the Week

Gary A. Vasquez/USA TODAY Sports

Matthew Stafford at Ravens (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Stafford is on fire, throwing seven touchdown passes and scoring 20-plus fantasy points in each of his last two starts. Can he do it against the Ravens on the road, though? My guess is a resounding no. Baltimore hasn’t allowed a single quarterback to score more than 16.2 points against them at home, including the trio of C.J. Stroud, Jared Goff and Joe Burrow.

Sit ’Em

C.J. Stroud at Jets (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Sit Stroud? Am I nuts? Maybe, but I would temper expectations for the rookie in New York. He has failed to score more than 16.1 points in two of his last three games, and the Jets have given up more than 13.3 points to just one quarterback (Jalen Hurts) at home. That includes holding stars Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa to fewer than 14 points.

Jared Goff at Bears (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Goff has been better on the road in recent weeks, but he’s still been a dud away from Ford Field more often than not since last season. I’d be a bit concerned about him this week, as the Bears defense has been far tougher against enemy quarterbacks lately. In fact, only the Patriots have surrendered fewer fantasy points to the position over the last four weeks.

Geno Smith vs. 49ers (4:05 p.m. ET, Fox): Smith is coming off his best game of the season, scoring almost 30 points against the Cowboys. I wouldn’t chase the points, though, as Smith has been held to fewer than 16 points nine times in 12 starts. That includes a 7.3-point stink bomb against this week’s opponent, the 49ers, in Week 12. With only two teams on a bye, Smith should be benched.

Baker Mayfield at Falcons (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Mayfield had been playing at a high level a few weeks back, but he’s regressed in the stat sheets lately. In fact, he has failed to score even 14 fantasy points in each of his last three games. I’d sit him down against Atlanta, as their defense has allowed no touchdown passes and an average of just 16 points to opposing quarterbacks in their last three games.
