Week 14 Start ’Em, Sit ’Em: Kickers and Team Defenses

Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups based on a PPR scoring system in fantasy football. This column will not cover the elite players in the NFL like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey or Justin Jefferson. Instead, I'll look at the players you have questions about who could exceed or fail to meet expectations at each position. For all of your final fantasy lineup decisions, be sure to check out my weekly player rankings which will be updated daily throughout the 2023 NFL season.

Week 14 Start ’Em: Defenses

Start of the Week

Thomas Shea/USA Today Sports

Texans defense at Jets (1 p.m. ET, CBS): The Texans defense put up a top-10 fantasy total last week, and this week’s matchup in New York will make it a very popular streamer. The Jets haven’t scored more than 13 points in a game since Week 6, and their offense has allowed the third-most sacks on the season.

Start ’Em

Packers defense at Giants (Mon. 8:15 p.m. ET, ABC): Green Bay is also a solid one-week option against the Giants, who have a league-high 69 sacks allowed this season. Their offense has been, well, offensive, scoring no more than 17 points in all but one of their last 10 games, including six contests with 12 or fewer points.

More Starts

Steelers defense vs. Patriots (Thur. 8:20 p.m. ET, Prime Video)
Browns defense vs. Jaguars (1 p.m. ET, CBS)
Dolphins defense vs. Titans (Mon. 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN)

DFS Bargains (DraftKings)

Jaguars defense at Browns ($3,600)
Lions defense at Bears ($3,400)
Vikings defense at Raiders ($3,100)

Week 14 Sit ’Em: Defenses

Sit of the Week

Eagles defense at Cowboys (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC): The Eagles defense has not been very fantasy friendly, and it won’t start this week against the Cowboys. Their offense has been explosive at home, averaging a league-high 41 points and 438 yards of offense. Dallas has also committed a mere three giveaways at home.

Sit ’Em

Chiefs defense vs. Bills (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): The Chiefs defense is in the top 12 in fantasy points this season, but a tough home matchup against the Bills makes it a fade. Josh Allen and his offense has averaged 27.3 points and 383 yards of total offense, and it’s allowed the fewest sacks of any team in the league this season.

Jason Sanders vs. Titans (Mon. 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN): Sanders has been the start of the week the last couple of weeks, and he’s scored a combined 31 points in those games. So, why not go for a fourth straight week? He has a great matchup versus the Titans, who are tied for the second-most points allowed to kickers.

Start ’Em

Matt Gay at Bengals (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Gay continues to thrive in the stat sheets, scoring at least eight points in all but one of his last eight games. He should have another nice line this week too, as he faces a Bengals defense that’s given up an average of 9.8 fantasy points per game to opposing kickers since Week 10.

More Starts

Younghoe Koo vs. Buccaneers (1 p.m. ET, CBS)
Chase McLaughlin at Falcons (1 p.m. ET, CBS)
Daniel Carlson vs. Vikings (4:05 p.m. ET, Fox)

Week 14 Sit ’Em: Kickers

Sit of the Week

Dustin Hopkins vs. Jaguars (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Hopkins was the hottest kicker in fantasy football earlier this season, but his pace has slowed down. In fact, he has failed to score more than seven points in three straight games. I’d keep him on bench against the Jaguars, who have allowed the fifth-fewest points to kickers.
